Recap of the Second Annual German-US Summit

The second annual US-German Summit, hosted by PKF Hamburg, was held from 18-20 August 2019. Approximately 40 PKF members and guests attended, representing firms from Germany, the United States, Poland and Switzerland. The primary focus of the Summit was to promote German-US collaboration and identify necessary action steps to strengthen the German-US PKF relationship. The event kicked off on Sunday with a welcome reception at the PKF Hamburg office. Sightseeing opportunities following the reception included a visit to the Elbphilharmonie Plaza, a walk through the Alter Elbtunnel and a cruise through the Harbor on the historic state barge, Schaarhörn.

On Monday morning, PKF members presented updates on various German-US collaboration initiatives. The focus of presentations during the afternoon session was to grow PKF’s Star Network. In the evening, PKF had the honor of hosting keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Andreas Dombret, former member of the Executive Board of the German Federal Bank and Member of the Board at Atlantik-Brücke e.V., who discussed his perspectives of US-German relations in light of the changes in the technological and social environment. Following the keynote was a panel discussion including Prof. Dr. Dombret, Lars Heymann (PKF Fasselt), Thorsten Preisegger (PKF Fasselt) and Dave Nissen (PKF Mueller). In addition to the PKF members in attendance, several guests and invitees from Hamburg’s economy listened in on the keynote and participated in the Q&A sessions during the panel. The evening concluded with a flying dinner, which provided networking opportunities for all in attendance.

On Tuesday, PKF member presentations and breakout sessions continued and members came to a consensus on the actions steps. Before the event concluded, it was announced that PKF O’Connor Davies, LLP will host next year’s US-German Summit in New York.
