Dynamic regulatory framework creates new areas of responsibility

Since the beginning of the liberalisation of the energy markets, operators of electricity and gas grids have had to adapt their business activities to the constantly changing regulatory framework.

The increasing complexity of legal requirements, regulations and specifications, coupled with rising pressure on grid fees and earnings contributions, is creating new, complex and highly dynamic areas of responsibility.

The concentration of regulatory competences with the regulatory authorities, triggered by European case law and national legislation, represents a paradigm shift. With the process initiated at the beginning of 2024 for the further development of incentive regulation, the Federal Network Agency is emphasising its claim to design and making it clear that the industry must once again prepare itself for far-reaching changes.
